Illinois Wesleyan University Collegiate Chorale Premieres La Frontera

Conductor J. Scott Ferguson and the Illinois Wesleyan University Collegiate Choir are participating in the premiere season of La Frontera (The Border). This is a setting of a poem written by an undocumented immigrant youth imprisoned in an American maximum security detention center. Full program notes and free access to the score are available here. I was moved to set this poem to music both to bear witness to the problem and to help bring more attention to issues of immigration. We need comprehensive immigration reform and we need it now! The struggles of immigrants are all too vivid, both today and throughout our history.
