Amanda Gookin plays For the Birds

For the Birds, commissioned and recorded by cellist Madeleine Shapiro, was inspired by the birds of the Yellowstone region, where Madeleine loves to hike. Sadly, and astonishingly, the bird population in the US has declined by 30% in recent decades. For the Birds has four movements, each focused on the calls of different types of birds: 1. Songbirds 2. Sapsuckers 3. Birds of Prey 4. Waterbirds. May this performance help us focus on what needs to be done to protect them!
