She commissioned it in 2017\, and has toured it world-wide. DESCRIPTION:Pianist Joan Mizrahi performs CHAI VARIATIONS ON ELIAHU HANAVI at Calvary Baptist Church in Washington\, D.C. This piece is a set of 18 variations on the first section of the beautiful melody often sung at the close of the Sabbath. The name “Chai” means for “living” in Hebrew\, and also stands for the number 18. I chose to create 18 variations\, with the order left to the performer\, focusing on the collaborative aspect between performer and composer. Chai Variations on Eliahu HaNavi has been recorded by pianist MARY KATHLEEN ERNST\, and a new recording by NATHAN CARTERETTE is in process.

Her tour celebrates her exciting new CD Somewhere\, on Ravello Records\, which also  features electroacoustic music by Benjamin Broening\, Matthew McCabe\, Mark Snyder\, Kirsten Volness\, Joseph Harshanko and Mark Phillips. Other versions of Penelope”s Song\, are also available\, including the original for viola\, as well as those for amplified  cello\, violin\, flute\, clarinet or soprano sax.
