Event Details

Pianist Susan Merdinger performs Chai Variations on Eliahu HaNavi on her program Four Centuries: Variations. In addition to the Chai Variations, she will perform Beethoven's Sonata No. 30, Op. 109. Schumann's Symphonic Etudes and Barilari's Saxon Variations. The program is presented by Suset Music and Arts at the Incarnation Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Shatin's variations have been recorded by pianists Mary Kathleen Ersnt and Nathan Carterette, the former on her Keeping Time album and the latter on his Poets of the Piano/Acts of Faith album. One of the unusual features of Shatin's piece is that the performer chooses the variation order, with 18! options.
