Interview about Respecting The First (Amendment)

One on One with Judith Shatin

The Museum of the First Amendment, in Augusta, ME has a program called One on One in which they interview people about the First Amendment. They contacted me and interviewed me after I had composed  Respecting the First (Amendment) for string orchestra and electronic fashioned from recordings  of and about the first amendment. It was commissioned by the San Jose Chamber Orchestra and their adventuresome conductor Barbara Day Turner. This amendment guarantees absolutely fundamental rights: freedom of religion (and from the state establishing any), freedom of speech and of the press; of the right to peaceably assemble and to petition the government for the redress of grievances. We live in a time when these rights are under attack and I wanted to draw attention to this critical amendment.
