Floes at ICMC in Boston

June 14 @ 7:30 pm

The Music/Video version of Floes will be presented at the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) at Emerson University’s Bright Family Screening Room. While Floes was a collabaration between artist SoHyun Bae, composer Judith Shatin and choreographer Virginie Mecene, the music/video version has been presented on its own as well. Recent performances of the full piece with choreography have taken place on the Martha Grahm Studio Series and the WestFest Festival.

Inspired by concern for the havoc wrought by climate change, Floes is the result of an interactive process, with each of the collaborators sharing their work and using it as a cross-media springboard that led to cross-media responses and discussion. Named  for the large ice sheets that  form ever more frequently on bodies of water around melting glaciers, our sonic/visual /kinetic collaboration embodies formation, collision, breaking, flowing.
