Vayter un Vayter is a setting of three poems by Avrom Sutzkever in the original Yiddish. These include Es Klopfn di Shlefyn, Shpiltsayg and Ver Vet Blaybn>. The title, translated as Farther and Farther, is drawn from the first poem, and speaks to how Sutzkever’s work draws one farther and farther into his world, and that of the larger community that existed before its destruction in World War II. Scored for bass singer, clarinet, cello and piano, the piece is a co-commission of the Jewish Music Commission of Los Angeles and the Stony Brook Chamber Players. It will be premiered at Stony Brook on November 15, followed by a performance at the Thalia Theatre of Symphony Space in New York City on November 16, 1021.
