SAM, the Society for American Music, has selected Shatin for an honorary membership, with a ceremony at their annual convention that is in Richmond, Virginia this year. Selected in recognition of her contributions to American Music, two of her compositions will be performed. These include Canta La Sal for cello, horn and piano and Penelope’s Song for amplified viola and electronics fashioned from recordings of a local weaver. The trio will be performed by outstanding UVA faculty Adam Carter (cello), Jeremy Ulm (horn) and John Mayhood (piano), while Penelope’s Song will be performed by distinguished violist Danielle Wiebe.
