The Society of American Music (SAM) awarded Judith Shatin its annual Honorary Membership for her contributions to American Music at their Plenary Session in Richmond, VA on March 14, 2026. President Denise Von Glahn noted her contributions in a wide variety of fields. This was followed by performances of Canta la Sal, for cello, horn and piano (with cellist Adam Carter, hornist Jeremy Ulm and pianist John Mayhood) as well as Penelope’s Song, (with violist Danielle Wiebe-Burke) in the original version for amplified viola and electronics from processed weaving recordings. It was augmented by the accompanying film created by artist Kathy Aoki and animator Marco Marquez.
